Spotlight is where we sit down with the drivers who keep the gig economy moving. We caught up with Anthony in Sugar Hill, GA — here is our conversation.
How did you get into gig driving, and what keeps you at it?
TEST ENTRY. I started driving in 2022 after my warehouse shift got cut. The first week I made about $600 and learned the airport runs were worth it. I stayed because I like setting my own hours.
What does a typical week look like for you?
TEST ENTRY. Around 45 hours a week split between Uber and DoorDash. Mornings are airport runs, evenings are food delivery. I drive a 2021 Toyota Camry Hybrid rented weekly because the fuel savings cover most of the rental.

What is the best thing that has happened to you on the road — or the strangest?
TEST ENTRY. A passenger once left a full wedding cake in my back seat and I drove it across town just in time for the reception.
What do you know now that you wish someone had told you in your first month?
TEST ENTRY. Track every mile from day one, keep 25% aside for taxes, and do not chase surge pricing across town. Learn your area's patterns and let the trips come to you.
How do you keep the numbers working — fuel, the car, maintenance, taxes?
TEST ENTRY. I log fuel and miles in a spreadsheet, get oil changes every 5,000 miles, and pay quarterly estimated taxes.
Where would you take a friend visiting Sugar Hill, GA? A place to eat, to take a break between trips, or just to see?
TEST ENTRY. Grab lunch downtown and take a break at the park by E.E. Robinson — easy parking and quiet between trips.
What are you working toward? What does the driving pay for?
TEST ENTRY. Saving up to buy my own car and eventually list a second one on GigCarFinder.
